This song to me is about an unconditional, and powerful love for another person. In my case its the love I have always felt for my daughter, Ali. She was always this extraordinary person with such a she was beautiful, inside and out, she was smart, she was very funny, she was extremely thoughtful, and compassionate! She would do anything for anybody. She was always happy, and wanted everyone else to be happy too. If anyone she knew, loved, or cared about was in trouble, she was always there to do whatever it was she could do to help. Even if she didn't know you, and you asked for her help, she would give it. She loved her entire family so much, she never missed any event. She spent time with her 92 year old great grandmother, all the way down to her little cousins, often going to all of their sporting events. She was a exceptional daughter, step daughter and sister, aunt, granddaughter, niece, friend, and student as well. Anything I may have forgotten, she was great at that too! We lost her to an automobile accident on march 22nd of this year (2013) I am her mother, and I am having the hardest time trying to move forward without her. I speak for our whole family, to her character, and to how truly missed she is and always will be. It is for her, that we all need to strive to move forward, and be happy. That is what she would want for each and every one of us. Ali, we miss you so much, and life will never be the same here on earth. Until the day we meet again, this song is for you!

Love this cover of the song! When I first listened to it I couldn't tell whether it was meant to be a happy song of expressing love or a sad song about telling someone who doesn't love you, that you love them. I now believe that these lyrics are so well written and powerful that you can really make them any emotion you want. At the moment Adele's version suits my situation better but in years to come I could also use it as a love song. Beautiful lyrics and Adele has an amazing voice.

For me this song explains the unexplanable love you have for someone and that you would do anything just to prove how close you are to them I recently sang this song in a contest and when I sang it just reminded me of my friends and family and how I would do anything for them. You generally don't write/sing a love song if you are sure it's going well. You really don't need it. You're already in heaven. That's why people are picking up the sadness, especially from Adele. But, it's strong in the song too. I love the phrase "highway of regret". And traditionally, it is a bad sign, if she/he is not sure yet.

Few people seem to know that this song was written by Bob Dylan. I think some people think Adele wrote it. She does a beautiful version, but Dyaln's own vocal on the album Time out of Mind is heartbreakingly beautiful and poignant, sung in his 60 year old husky voice. It brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it, whereas Adele's cover is lovely, but it did not move me as much as Bob's did.

I think it's talking about a person that loves someone with all of their heart but the person they love maybe doesn't love them back or loves someone else. And you're trying to get them to love you back.
I relate to this because I love a guy named dallas. And I've never loved anyone as much as I love him. But he can't get over his past girlfriend, which happened to be one of my best friends. The meaning of this song is two sided I believe. It can be geared towards someone who is in a relationship but having issues or it can be towards someone who is a friend and you are afraid to make that next step because they are afraid of ruining a good friendship. I love this song. Even before adell covered it. It is a song of love and sorrow and it has a huge meaning to me. I had a wonderful friend and he and I decided that we were okay being friends. However, he found out he was terminal with cancer. We moved our friendship up a notch because we both had such strong feelings towards one another and it just so happened that we were driving in my car and this song came on the oldies station and I had to pull over the car and just sobbed uncontrolably. He died shortly after we told each other how much we loved one another and I will never forget that no matter what.

It sounds kind of morbid but how I've always seen love is the unconditional kind, where you would give your all for that other. What she is in the song is that she was in a relationship and things went bad maybe things were said that both regret but she still loves with all her heart and unconditionally. Basicly there is nothing that she wouldnt do to get her man back she loves him that much. She is telling him all the things that she could do and would do to make things better she is just sorry for what has happend. If she sang this song to me I would take her back in a second.

I honestly don't think this is a happy love song. I think it's about the torture of unrequited love. The biggest clue is the line "I know you haven't made your mind up yet", but there are subtler ones. The words "could" and "would" appear multiple times, indicating a potential for things that haven't been done yet. It's like she's saying "I COULD do all of these amazing things for you...if you'd let me".

My anniversary is tomorrow, 9/8/11. It's been a roller coaster decade. Three children later, missing divorce twice, bankruptcy, home (we built) in foreclosure. Quit my job and took another one at a lower salary but the usual gamble of moving a step up in my business. A decade of stress, heartache, heartbreak, no connection, anger, torment, misery, all but "done." but we stayed and sorted things out, took our own journeys and I can honestly say that for the first time in a decade, I feel good about all of this. I have always loved my wife dearly and have always knew it. I'm a lucky man here. The worst of times otherwise but I have an intact marriage, a loving one, the love of my girls. I'm fine. This song makes me weep with such joy, as it speaks to me and says it all.

The first time I had this song I cryed a tear of joy, I was moved. We shouldnt hold back on our love just because we were hurt. I have th most loving man in my life, he tells me every second that he loves me but I have been holding back. To me the song is a heartfelt mix of hope and hopelessness at the same time. I first heard it sung by Adele on my way to visit my partner in the psychiatric unit where he was recovering from self-abuse and near-successful attempted suicide. I had to stop the car and cry floods I'd been holding back after weeks of being 'strong'. Anyone who has suffered childhood abuse will understand his lack of self-worth, yet from the moment that we met I found him special, kind, funny, loving and deserving of all I could offer. Sadly, not enough to heal him. Tho' I can't fix him, and maybe he doesn't want to be, this song helps me remember how much he means and gives me strength to be there for him as a best friend, whatever the future brings.

And if you think about it, it can also be a love song for your children. The 3rd stanza can relate to a teen and how they pull away from their parent, don't trust them, think they don't know anything. But hopefully they eventually come to realize their parent wants what is best for them. As a mom, the moment my children were born, and even before when I felt them first move while I was still pregnant, I knew I would willingly do anything I could for them.

Although Adele did not write the song, I believe it is not anything close to being an awful cover. Yes, Bob Dylan wrote these wonderful lyrics, and yes, Ronan Keating did a fabulous job covering it, but honestly so did Adele. Her voice is magnificent. And maybe she added a depressing touch to the song, but at least she made it her own. I personally find it tragic that you believe that you'd compare a good, pure, and honest artist like Adele to and over-hyped pop star. This is definitely not in the 'shitty covers' category. If you want to hear a shitty cover. You should've watched Fergie sing with Slash last night at the superbowl. All I am saying is give Adele some credit for this and look at it in a new light. She took Dylan's lyrics and made something of them, and she sang how she felt. This is an example of a heartfelt cover.

Love the lyrics so much. Every line speaks about love. An unconditional love. Either it's love for someone special to you or love for a friend. Love for someone special but it's just a one sided love. It's hurts but it's just showed how she/he loved the person he/she loves. It also shows the love for a friend that who is down and she/he always be there for him/her to support and help her/him. I'm so touched cause this song make me realized how love is precious. Strong and deep song for a person. Based on the interpretations. The person would do anything for this person and letting him know how much she loves him. I also like the interpretation "its about loving someone with all of you and telling them you would do anything for them to be right next to you for all your life. I love keevan patterson and for me to make him feel my love was my only goal. Yesterday wednesday may 9, 2012 I was successful. To make someone feel your love is when you feel you can't live without them. Keevan is my true one and only boo. I adore him with all the love in my heart. Has a particularly strong meaning for me right now, when I think of my boyfriend in mozambique (we've been apart for almost 10 months), because I can't go back to mozambique until this summer. This song is everything I have wanted to tell someone and never knew how to say it to make them understand! So until he understands I will continue to wait for him to put aside his fears that all the other people in his life have made him feel, one day soon he will know that I am his safe place to land. I assume that there is an age gap between you and her. Age doesn't matter when it comes to love. The main thing is you both have love in your hearts. I assume the soul you truly loved was left by the man who got her pregnant and she only wants the best for her child. All mothers would give up everything just to keep their child loved and protected. If you love her so much and you can't live with out her the best way is to marry her so that she will have an assurance that you would never leave her like her past love and tell her that you would love her child as your own. Or just keep on proving that you have grown as a mature man. Love will find a way. Indifference will find an excuse.

Its truly an amazing song. When I first heard this song, it was like I became frozen. Its amazing how I could relate to this song in such a way. For 4 years I have been in a off and on relationship. My partner always left me to go back to her ex. The only half-decent cover is Ronan Keating's. Both Bob Dylan (who did write this song) and Ronan Keating manage to show the real emotion; Adele makes it depressing, you said yourself "sad song", it's not. At all. I find it tragic that people only learn about songs such as this when over-hyped pop stars make shitty covers.
