Annie Lennox – Into The West lyrics
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end

Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver-glass

A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Until the world of night
Through shadows' falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver-glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

This song will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because of the movies it's connected to, but because of the words and meaning behind them. This song basically summarizes the entire trilogy. It tells us of the struggles that we as people face just because of the world we live in. But then it ends saying that our troubles are not in vain nor are they eternal. We all eventually find our own white shores across the sea and we will live in bliss while we live there. Just as Frodo, we undergo hardship and usually loose people we care about along the way. But, in the words of Samwise the Brave, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. In the end, we all will find our way Into the West and we will all feel eternally peaceful.
