i think it is about someone going off to war...
"the sun will set for you" the will get thier moment of glory and probably die...
i only really think this because of the video but it seems to make sense

I think you're all wrong. It's about his friend moving away: "Pink cards and flowers on your window / Your friends all plead for you to stay."

That's why he's bolting the locks for her and closing the windows: he's shutting up her house or apartment because she's leaving.

He's wishing that the "sun will set for her"—meaning that he's actually hoping that she will miss him afterwards.

The song means a lot. Nothing last's forever. That the day may be dark, but light will come soon. That beginings may be hard but you have to fight it. You have to look ahead to the future.

Through life you will realize that things do not always work out as imagined. How you play something out in your head may turn out way different in reality.
