Mark Lowry – Mary Did You Know lyrics
[Verse 1]
Mary did you know that your baby boy will some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you
.

[Verse 2]
Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand
?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

Oh Mary did you know

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb

[Verse 3]
Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great I am

Best christmas song ever! Did she know just how special was? Or that the precious little baby she delivered in a manger no less, was the key to salvation for everyone, everywhere, for all time? I don't think we can even comprehend how much our God loves us, gifting us with His Son, washing our sins away with His sacrifice. I know that I will never be able to deserve what He has so lovingly given, but I will be thankful every single second of every day. Happy Birthday Jesus!

I love this song and I'm very honored to have him as my Lord and I thank God for giving his only begotten son, Jesus. And I want to think Jesus for making my life better with God. All things through Christ Jesus. If he gave God to you he can take him away so be thankful. No one ever said it would be easy but nothing is impossible for and with God. Thank you God in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

This great song seems to some up jesus as the son, the father and the holy spirit. It sums up his life as to why he was born and how he continues to be with us throughout eternity. I can honestly say it is probaly at the top of the thousands of songs that I am familiar with. I listen to it almost daily and have never tired of it. Thank you so much for writing this song. Mark and buddy I think heaven is very pleased with you.

I think that as a mother mary knew that her son was special, but I'm sure she as any mother loved her son but was afraid of losing him to the world. I mean think of this jesus loved each person as much as he loved her. How could you even begin to imagine this? I'm sure god sent special comfort and knowledge to mary so she could deal with the magnitude of the miricales jesus would perform. The song itself is a wonderful song it brings chill bumps each time I hear or read the words.

From a christmas card - 'some people think that christmas time is gifts and grub and booze - but the best bit is that jesus came - god's son in human shoes. ' that by becoming a man god was able to show us god (john 1: 18), and to offer us new life and salvation (1 tim 1: 15), to offer us reconciliation (2 cor 5: 19) and to defeat the devil (1 john 3: 8). Best thing I ever did was follow him - why not try that for yourself? Happy christmas!

Applying this song's message to our lives:
when god sent an angel to tell mary that she would bear (and, presumably, rear) god-incarnate the savior, mary actively cooperated with what god asked of her - over many years - even though she did not know (let alone understand) the details of the future horror and sorrow which would precede joy. Likewise, when god sends each of us impulses, ideas, asking us to carry within us certain feelings and convictions and to develop certain abilities, habits, relationships, over time, we do not know nor understand the details of the future difficulties and discouragements which we will encounter before our joy is complete, and we do not yet understand how the beliefs and actions we nurture can help to save us and the people we encounter. Praise be to god.

That song was amazing. I learned it and I have been singing it none stop. And the part that said when she kissed her little she kissed the face of god. When it said that it almost made me go into tears. And it showed me how lucky i am to Jesus in my life, because he died on the cross for me, my sins. So I could be forgiven. And I could go to heaven. That song really touched my heart. Because I mean god sent his one and only son to DIE for me all of us. I couldn't imagine what that would be like. When I grow up and have kids i couldn't imagine having them die on a cross in front of me. And the amazing part is that Jesus rose from the dead in 3 days. That is truly powerful. And that reminded me of how selfish everyone can be. We need to be more thankful of what we have. Cause was he being selfish when he died on the cross. NO. He wasn't forced to do that. He knew what he was doing. That song made be practically cry. BEST CHRISTMAS SONG EVER!

Mary did you know? It is a statement of awe that a small child, seemingly helpless is in fact the savior of the world. It is the full realization that god came to us in human form through jesus that this child may bridge the gap between us and our god. A baby boy. Our powerful god of the universe came to us as a baby to mary that she may raise him until he could raise us.

How could mary really understand how god would work through her? Most of the time it is when we look back on our lives; then we can see the presence of the lord. Mary was open to taking that step of faith because she put her trust in god. God was faithful and helped her all along the way. Beyond her expectations! Did she know? No way, but she trusted the promises of god.

It makes me cry and being senior pastor of our church, I hold my emotions extremely well but the chill bumps rose up my arms, my breath was shortened to almost a still, my heart beat with excitement and my face poured with water. This touch me on the inside and the words made me see my little granddughter dressed as an angel singing this to me as I sit holding a baby as.
Mary. I can imagine mary would have been as I was hearing this song. Its a felt inner movement that shows man how precious his birth is especially at this seasonl; I loved it I'm pastor wanda gipson here in.

I found this page when I searched "Why do I weep every time I hear Mary, Did You Know?". I've asked myself that question so many times! The first time I heard it in my car several years ago, my then 10 year old daughter asked "Why are you crying, Mommie?" I didn't know, so I just told her it was a sad song. To my surprise, I have wept EVERY SINGLE TIME I have heard this song! Tonight, I watched a saved episode of a singing competition in which the eventual winner sang a beautiful rendition of this song and despite my resolve to just listen and NOT get emotional, the tears started flowing. I truly believe the combination of my relationship with God and Him giving me the blessing of being a mother makes me put myself in Mary's shoes, subconsciously seeking to answer the question: Did she know all the miracles her baby boy, our Wonderful Savior, Jesus would perform? And how horribly He would suffer for all the sin of all mankind, nailed to that cross on Calvary? No matter how old our children become, aren't they always our "babies" in our hearts? The thought of my precious daughter being in His shoes is more than I can bear. I think that's where the pain in my heart comes from, and thus the tears when I hear this lovely song.

I believe that the Artist, Mark Lowry, who wrote the song: "Mary Did You Know", was saying through this song, did Mary really know that her baby was God in the flesh sent down to earth from heaven(St. Matthew 1:18, 23). He was the second person of the Trinity that became a man, God the Son, the Word of God(St. John 1:14). The Creator of the world (Colossians 1:16-17) That the reason why Jesus Christ was born was to save mankind from their sins (St. Matthew 1:21). That He was the sacrificial Lamb of the Old Testament to take away the sin of the world (St. John 1:29). Could she really conceive that Jesus was before Abraham was and that Jesus is the I am of the Old Testament (St. John 8; 58).

It has become increasingly clear to me that at the cross, every aspect of the character of God, His holiness, His righteousness, His justice, His wrath, His love, His mercy, His grace, all converged at one point in time, accomplishing our redemption. Between this awareness and the song, Mary Did You Know, This Christmas I was in a nearly constant state of worship. It's too big to put into words, but thank you for this song that sums up the purpose of Christ's coming so well.

It raises two profound questions for me. First, what did Mary really know? As a human she probably did not fully know the mind of God any more that the rest of us. But she was truly faithful and followed God's will without hesitation.

Second, when did Jesus become self aware and fully understand who he was. We know he was self aware by age 12, but it happened well before that.

These are questions we will never fully understand in this life.

I think that Mary new what the angel told her, but she didn't know what that exactly meant. Even though the angel specifically told her you will give birth to the savior of all kind. So she probably didn't know that her baby boy will some day walk on water. And her baby boy boy is lord of all creation. And her baby boy will some day rule the nations. And the baby that she delivered will some day deliver her. Also her baby boy will save our sons and daughters.

I have been helping in our church nursery for the past year and this song inspired me this year to ponder if we as parents know the miraculous gifts our children are to us? Maybe, just maybe, one of my babies will grow up and be instrumental in saving someone by introducing them to christ. Maybe your child will grow up and bring spiritual or physical sight to a hurting person. My babies have already delivered me, with the lord, from living a truly selfish lifestyle. Thank you, father, for making us a family.

This song is a song of divination from god thru mark lowry. It is so special and precious. Can you imagine how mary felt holding god in her arms and kissing his face? Think of all the other people who got to hold jesus and kiss him and bless him. It was god almighty! It overwhelms me with emotions. I truly love this song. Thank you mark and thank you god!

Whoever made this song must have been with the lord and that is really good . The lord really appreciates this song because its about his beloved son. :)

Mary must have been familiar with the passages in the Old Testament concerning the "Suffering Servant". And in spite of all this she said "yes" to God through the message of the angel at the Annunciation. Mary teaches us that no matter what we should always say "yes" to God through the every day trials (and joys) of life. Let us become "other Mary's".

The angels had said Blessed art thou... But just think of the range of thoughts that raced through her heart as she looked at Jesus the first time. Her first born, so perfect, yet she didn't have to wonder what his life would bring. She knew the scriptures, the wonderful things as well as the sorrow, the death the torment he would face. Yet she could not do anything to help or to spare him any pain. He was God and he had a work to do.

Whatever mary did or didn't know about her son, she knew he was special and a holy gift from god. I can't even imagine being in her place and wondering if I was feeding him right, needing to discipline him when he was a little boy and got into mischief? Assuming he did? Kissing his face and kissing god? What a beautiful, beautiful way to translate her experience! As for the use of the word "dumb", I can feel for the grandmother whose granddaughter is deaf but the word is one of those with multiple meanings especially in different times. I'd like to think that mark wouldn't write a song to offend anyone but to be inclusive of any and all disabilities. I feel the song is humbling and I'm blessed by that.

Mark was truly inspired by God when he wrote these words. If you ever have a chance to see him sing his beautiful song, you will see him reflect God’s presence. I’m a Texan living in Colombia, South America and want to share this beautiful Christmas Story with my Spanish Speaking friends here. Anyone know where I can find the lyrics in Spanish? I’ll Give my Computer Translator a crack at It. Would help to have the Chords to go along with it. I have a guitar player.

Yes, the song is beautiful, emotional, and a wonderful Christmas piece. But, the lyrics hurt people. I am deeply hurt by "the lame will walk, the dumb will speak, "etc. This tells me there is something wrong with my daughter who needs to be fixed. I am desperately looking for a way to re-write those phrases so people are not hurt.

Even more remarkable than the fact that Mary was a woman (women were second-class citizens in that era); was the fact that she was a teenager. In all the hordes of religious and academic elite, God the Father couldn't find ONE humble soul that He could trust to partner with Him in His fantastic plan to rescue mankind from themselves. Instead, He crossed all gender, socio-economic, political, ethnic, and class lines and selected this politically incorrect, and (need I mention, as yet unmarried, although she was engaged to Joseph at the time), young Jewish teenager to entrust with the genius plan of salvation for all mankind. I LOVE IT! Mary's story proves that God does not support the oppression and exclusion of ethnics, women, teens, (or infants for that matter), from His work.

What a dizzy feeling of awe she must have felt knowing that she was chosen to be in Jesus' bloodline. The fact that she was supernaturally impregnated, (without having intercourse with a human man), solidifies His virgin birth and confirms Jesus' lack of a sin nature. The blood of the Father determines a child's DNA - not the mother. Even down to the smallest deoxyribonucleic acid, Jesus was without sin. Wow. He is genuinely worthy of our respect and trust. Thank you Jesus, for condescending to the level of a child and identifying with our mundane struggles as human beings. Thank you for shedding your blood to erase our sins and for ascending to our Father as our Advocate. You are the only true and living God.

I owe you my very life. You saved me from a life of debauchery and dissipation. Now that you've saved, forgiven, cleansed, and cleaned me up spiritually; I can walk confidently toward my divine destiny free from sin, shame, guilt, negative thinking, and self-loathing. You are my hero and champion. I will serve you forever.

The song's lyrics are so powerful, as exemplified by the it's beautiful polyphony A Capella music. Listening to this piece will make a non believer believe. Even for Christians, both those baptized from birth or those converted, will find powerful messages and biblical reminders while being mesmerized into the music with the accompanied words at the pivotal highlight of each phrase. This song could easily be song daily in prayer to welcome a new day with Jesus and all that is possible through Him, which I intend to do daily while driving to work in the morning and at home on weekend. I know I will never tire of listening to this song reminding me of all Jesus has done for our salvation, as I imagine myself sitting in a Cathedral with the bells ringing in joyful magnificence. It will also remind me how Mary and Joseph humbly and quietly accepted, loved, and protected Jesus as an infant and small child, but then realized Jesus was indeed God's Son when they found him in the Temple with scholars at the age of only 12. At that time of realization, both Mary and Joseph began to see how great their baby boy was predestined to become the King of all nations.

This song has spoken to my heart since I was asked to sing it for a meditation at Christmas Mass. This morning it brings me tears as I hold my precious grandson after having learned of a young mother's pain at delivering a child who never took a breath in this world. I pray for Colleen and her husband and ask the Lord Jesus to heal, comfort and gift them with another child as soon as possible. I thank God for my own children and grandchildren. We can never know the mind of God but it is so hard to understand the loss of this innocent... how does this fit in his plan? All I can do is pray. And cry. Did Mary know that this baby that she loved before His Birth would die a violent death for us and rise again to bring us joy? God's plan is unknowable. I thank Him for the blessings on my family and beg Him to continue to keep harm from our doors.

O' how that Spotless Baby Lamb of God must have Glistened! The Backdrop of Nature so Raw! Nuzzled Safely in a Feeding trough (manger) and Him Glowing so Brightly that Heaven and all its Occupants Stopped its activities with a Reverence of Silence! Selah! That must have all Held Their Breath as the Very Stars in the Cosmos Bowed to the Newly Born King of the Universe! And O' how Mary must have had Such Joy Unspeakable almost unable to Contain the Powerful Love she felt for Him. Her Holy Son and Courageous Deliverer! O Thank You Holy Father for this Glorious Gift that Keeps on Giving second by second and century after century! Praise Jesus! Glory to God! Emmanuel is with us always! I love you all, brothers and sisters of the world! Mary absolutely did know! Gabriel told her! :-).

I do love the song, but must confess it is bad theology. If Mary was not already saved before Christ's birth, we would not have a Savior to celebrate. If Mark is interested, would suggest changing the last 2 lines of verse one, perhaps as follows:

Did you know your baby boy has come to make us new?
The child that you've delivered, who has delivered you?

I love this song, and it does sum. Up the power that she knew her Son would have... and biblically speaking, Mary grew up with the prophecies of a virgin birth and a savior. She grew up believing and keeping her faith in these prophecies, so in a sense she did know all that was meant to happen. But to grasp she was the one to give birth to our Savior, that's a completely different story.

How much did Mary know and when? Before Christ's conception, she knew what Gabriel told her, that is, that she would conceive without having known man. When she brought Christ to the temple at eight days old for circumcision and once a year every year for Passover before and after He missed the caravan home when He was twelve or so, Mary was forming him, not knowing He was the incarnate "I am." However, by Cana, she knew. Therefore, the healing and the saving that followed, as detailed in the Lowry's lyrics, she had pondered and understood, which enabled her to be the serene face Christ saw at the foot of cross. However, there He did teach her that not only was she mother to Him but also mother to us, a role she took on as soon as during the following week when awaiting the Holy Spirit, she calmed the apostles, advising them to quietly and observantly wait, perceive, and discern. She had been through this before, having previously experienced the Holy Spirit's descending upon her. Subsequently, whether through her appearances at Lasalette and elsewhere or through her felt presence at the bedside of dying loved ones or through our doing throughout the day as she did, pondering, we too opt or opt not to do as she continues to do and advises us to do, to turn toward her Son and to remember and to do as He says and does, if we chose to do what is good for us. Peril, that is, hell on earth and elsewhere, otherwise, remains an option, an option He has not rescinded, so great is His love.

This song has always reminded me how special we all are - we so easily take our children for granted, we have been taken for granted/abused perhaps by guardians. When we all are unique children of God, the Creator. It's a beautiful song and I sing it to my 4 year old boy, knowing I am truly blessed every day with his presence - his love is powerful!. I am inspired about how much God loves us with this song. Namaste.

The first time I heard this song I felt like the lyrics were talking to me. Each word touched my heart, and spoke to me about mary, the mother god in a way I never thought of before. With the words, "mary did you know when kiss you baby, you kiss the face of god", brought tears to my eyes. I can't think of any song that could do that to me.

The most beautiful song of the season. One problem--why is it acceptable to say "the dumb will speak"? It is degrading and does not need to be expressed that way. Why not say, "the mute will speak"? My 4 year old granddaughter was born deaf and has had two cochlear implants and can now hear. How do I explain to her that she is called dumb? . She is extremely bright, reads lips and signs as well as talks and sings. At night when she has to take her "ears" off, she is once again deaf. Does this make her dumb? Seriously, is this neccessary to use such a hurtful word? Using the words, blind, lame and deaf are not hurtful, why use the word dumb? In the song, the word dumb means that the person will now "speak". Can't the word mute be used? Help me please. This hurtful word cuts me to the core. Does anyone who sings this song know what it is like to be deaf or go through surgery to have cochlear implants? Check it out and then think how you would feel if someone you love was called dumb. Thank you, have a blessed life.

We will never be able to comprehend the fulness of who god is, the weight of gods glory, that's why it is so impotant to recieve the holy spirit. The holy spirit empowers us to carry his glory, to understand. Not only mary didnot understand, but we that are born again and have this gift in us today, don't understand what we have on the inside of us. If you really think about it we will never be able to concieve the fulness of te almighty god. We know in part we prophesy in part, all the books in the world can't contain our god, if I had a thousand toungues it will not be enough to give him the praise that's he deserves, but my god when we see him face to face, what a glourious day that will be.

I believe god delivered this song to us through mark lowry to remind us of.
His committment to his love for us and his desire for each of us to have salvation and stay in covenant with him. This message speaks to parents everywhere, especially mothers, that you don't know what plans god has ordained for that child you have been charged with rearing but know that despite the circumstances, that child does have a devine purpose. That child was sent to you as a gift and a reminder that you may not know what lies ahead but god has ordained a plan for your child. And if you trust god and follow closely, god's plan will manifest in that child's life, in your life and bless many more along the way. There is a reason why this occurance is repeated daily: children are born to remind us of the promises of god, to renew our faith and keep us moving toward god. Thank you jesus for not giving up on us! Merry christmas family!

Speaking of mary as jesus' earthly mother, the question pertains to as jesus develops into a man, he will do forms of miracles such as walking on water and healing the blind and lame. He would heal different ones in the bible times and touch people here on earth today as christians and being obedient to his word which is the bible. In conclusion, when mary was holding jesus as a baby did she really know that he was the great I am. Merry christmas and have a blessed new year!

We respect/show reverence to mary which is fine; however remember she needed jesus as savior and lord as us all. Let's also thank god for joseph-his willingness to serve as a natural father/example to the son of man. In their culture joseph, could've put mary away for being pregnant before she bore a son for joseph. I'm thankful for mary & joseph for their obedience and willingness to raise my savior & lord! :)

Mary was created to give birth to our saviour. God is perfect. Mary has a perfect soul. God does not dwell in an imperfecr tabernacle. Her tabernacle was pure and without blemish. We are all brothers and sisters in christ. Mary is our spiritual mother and loves us also. God loves his mother and we also love her. Mary knew from the time of angel gabriel's message that she would give birth to the son of god!
