Could this be related to her not showing her face, so that she does not get put into the media's cage of cruelty? They judge your appearance, rip you apart in every aspect of your life, more than appreciate the music. They have destroyed many artist's life and careers. She is very wise given her past to protect herself and her music and to give her music the visual missing component, she added various visual create performances, which are awesome and beautiful.

The only thing I miss is being able to see the depth of her emotions that you get from watching a singer's facial nonverbals, but even in her old videos, she mostly turns inward, singing still faced, without moving, except when she signs in, "Soon We'll be Found" or in her music videos. I would love to know why she knows sign language. The SNL signer/pantomime, brought me to tears.
She has incredible way of putting into words the raw experiences of pain people feel. Although the subject may be different than my own experience (I don't cut or drink, but I have helped them get to and thru rehab), the underlying pain from my songs, resonate in my life and I find myself singing applicable lyrics during the day. I don't feel as alone when I listen to her music.
