    Being an alcoholic, this song hit me in the heart extremely hard. The first verse of the song gives addiction a figure, the shadow looming over the affected. Making empty promises just to get what you want, to get one more buzz, or high. "Jesus won't you fucking whistle, something but what's past and done?" This is asking the question of, has the Lord given up on me? Feeling like you're constantly being dragged under, with no light at the surface.
    The second verse of the song is where it relates to the person, the addicted. "I will only complicate you, Trust in me and fall as well, I will find a center in you, I will chew it up and leave", This means that an addict does not care about anyone, not even themselves, we do anything to get what we need even if it means breaking people down to feel good, and once we get what we want, there's no need for you anymore.
