Muse – Starlight lyrics
Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing a starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to reignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
I just wanted to hold

No, it definetly is not about girlfriends, I believe you have percieved this remarkable lyric incorrectly, unless Matt Bellamy is actually addicted to his own girlfriend.
Obviously his girlfriend counts as someone who does care about him a lot, why do you think he said "people who care if I live or die"?.
Rather this is a song dedicated to drug addicts, and its actually trying to make people realise the power drugs can have you, and the people around you.
Nothing could ever change your world for the worse than drugs can (except health concerns and other shit).
He also makes a reference to depressed people who feel so awful that they take drugs in a desperate attemtp to cope with pain or maybe addicted people who are so desperate for drugs, he says in his lyrics "All the souls that would die just to feel alive". Drugs have the power to change your mood, and therefore has the power to hook you.
But he isn't the only generous artist to do this Michael Jackson created lyrics for drug addicts to, try looking at "Beat It"

This song could be about someone very significant that passed away. You want them back so badly you will hold on, chase anything, to get them back. You don't ever want to lose their memory. Feeling hopeless and disconnected from the people who love you bc you are in a bad place just trying to hold on.

The song is about someone who fell in love with a girl he wants to be with for the rest of his life an he's ready to just drop everything in his life an run off with her an start a new life but he wants to make sure she'll never fall out of love with him because of the things he is ready to sacrifice for her. Great song that can really make you think how much you love an want to cherish the person you are with (that is if you have someone) are you ready for that leap?

4th album and success: This song is about stardom.
"This ship is taking me far away…" The ship is his musical career that keeps him on the road, far away from the people "who care if I live or die." He's tired of being on the road, "I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore…" but he'll keep doing it as long as his fans don't abandon him, "promise not to fade away, never fade away." He wants to inspire, “reignite the souls who would die just to feel alive," that's why he chases the starlight. “Our hopes and expectations" (our dreams) are what we want. "Black holes and revelations" (reality) is what we get - being a rock star isn't easy. "I just wanted to hold you in my arms..." He loves his fans and wants to touch everyone, in some way - hold you. If you're reading this, he succeeded.

The song is about a girl, his girlfriend. She is the Starlight. All Matt Bellamy wants is to Hold her in his arms. But as the relationship becomes deeper and deeper, he feels like she is taking him away from the people who care if he lives or dies. He has been chasing her this entire time, "I will be chasing a starlight until the end of my life." But as a consequence grows further and further away from his friends and family. The word ship in the line "This ship has taken me far away" represents her. But even tho she is doing all of this, he can't help but be with her. "My life, you electrify my life"
She must be something quite remarkable.
