Pentatonix – Hallelujah lyrics
[Verse 1: Scott]
I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do
you?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

[Verse 2: Avi]
Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair

And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

[Verse 3: Kirstin]
Well baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a vict'ry march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

[Verse 4: Mitch]
Well, maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it’s not a cry that you hear at night
It’s not somebody who's seen the light

It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

[Outro]
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

The lyrics speak to me of how much God loves men. He loves men beyond his own understanding and at the end of man’s understanding he glorifies God by saying hallelujah. God is omnipotent, omnipresent., And omniscient. Let us not be distracted by our weaknesses would let us learn of him by excepting Jesus Christ as our Lord.

For out of God’s word flows the issues of life which is a living substance; it is our hope that the spirit that’s in his word will change us into his image we were created to become. We cannot change ourselves. As we trust Jesus after we receive him, he will set us free through and by his Word. II Peter 1:4.

I have no idea what these lyrics mean, but they sure sound good together. She tied him to the kitchen chair and cut his hair sounds like something Delilah did to Sampson. and it is sung so beautifully. Maybe the author of the lyrics clue us in on the meetings.

For me it's a song of temptation, falling and redemption. Temptation, sinning and realization and leaving it behind. Of course interpretation of the Pentatonix version is very variable. Especially the verse where she tied him to the chair, breaks his throne and cuts his hair and he or she utters hallelujah. Lots and lots of interpretations from BDSM to consenting to godlessness, being broken and the realization which leads to salvation

whups - I was just here for the music, although I was reminded of how, when I was a kid, my dad used to cut my hair while i sat on the step-stool chair in the kitchen which had the easiest floor to sweeo the hair from. The shooting made no sense, the breaking throne made no sense, but the words all fit well into the song's timing. Also, I think the first person meant to say "accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord" which has an entirely different meaning than the word "excepting" which would mean to exclude. All the rest of the lyrics, nope, but the music and harmony are so perfect, and they just give me the chills when the bass voices come in.
