Sometimes you envision yourself with them so much to the point where you've created someone completely different and a relationship that is only in your mind. Love drives you to this point of blind (black) submission and then you create your own gold. It is like an imaginary world and she sings, "if vision is the only validation then most of my life isn't real". She means, that she feels this imaginary love and does not see it; therefore, if seeing something is what makes it real, she has no love. Thus she is "filled to the top with fear". At least, that's how I see it.
