It's about a couple that has to break up for whatever reason. Despite still caring about each other they know that they can't be together. The woman doesn't want to love him anymore but she still does. So she makes up reasons to hate him. He's ok with this knowing that she's just trying to get over the relationship, so despite the fact that he still loves her instead of making it more difficult and fight the lies he sits back and accepts the blame, because he knows that her forgetting about him will make her happier then still being in love with someone she can't be with.

At first I didn't understand this song. Like why would he not want her to love him anymore. But after hearing it for awhile I think its because he doesn't want her to love him anymore because he wants out of the relationship. Either way, its a sad song but I loved it the first time I heard it. Going through my own relationship issues, I sometimes wish he wouldn't love me anymore so that we could make our separation easier on each other.

This song speaks my heart. After 30 years I know our marriage is at an end. I still love her, but I can't get over the pain and betrayal, the small mindedness and jelously. She wants to continue out of fear, but I know it will be better for both of us if we go our seperate ways. Out of the love left in my heart for her, I'm being the bad guy. My prayer for her is that she will move on, grow and find the happiness I never could give her.

Stayed together for 34 years. Last 20 have been the lonliest time of my life. Despite everyone advising divorce, I hung in there because (as I said hundreds of times) "i just can't be the bad guy, i can't be the one to leave and hurt her". Divorce now pending. If I have to be the bad guy (sob), so be it. We both deserve more than we give each other. I am giving her everything. I love her, care about her just not 'man-woman' love anymore. Despite all I have done, and will continue to do for her, I will be the sob that left. At this point I understand that, and accept it. I can look myself in the mirror knowing I gave it all. This song tells my story perfectly.

When two people just cannot live together, or make a life together, no matter how much they may love one another. There comes a time when one of them has to call an end to the pain. And walk away. This doesn't end the love though. Or the yearning for the way it used to be. That's what this song is about. He is willing to do whatever it takes, to amke her stop loving him. So the pain of them not being together anymore will stop. If they don't love each otehr anymore? It won't hurt.
