I don't mean to be that dark kid, I'm really not. But this song is really about depression and, one could argue, suicide. The lines like "i'd be so easy to take the easy way out. " and "it's hard to be surrounded by the ones that you love when they keep passing you by. " lead me to that conclusion. And I have dealt with depression, and this song totally takes me back to that time, and allows me to let that time in my life go. The song generally maintains a optimistic outlook, but when the "break free" breakdown hits, it's just this huge climax to this song, it's so amazing.

In my opinion I see it as a way of life and how the writing appeals to those who are always seem to be cold or heartless but in actual fact have a heart(rock solid from the outside looking in) and that we should be compassionate to ourselves in order to appreciate all. I feel as he also appeals to life choices when he says 'it'd be so easy to take the easy way out' it would be so easy to just sit at home and do nothing at all but we must not choose that way because its redundant. We may have to face our loved ones coming and going but its part of life as we continuously fight to better ourselves and enjoy the gifts of life.

This song happened to me in real. Its like when you love someone, and then you realise they arent the one for you. Then you pray to god for help. Silence, and no gain. Then you get fustrated and angry at god, and sad that the one you loved wasnt for you. Then you realise, life is a gift, and to keep believing in god's guidance. You become patient and wait for the day when the one for you shares your love.
