The eagle to me. As a NATIVE TRIBAL person, is the most prolific sacred relative. This song makes me remember how I tried to go beyond the usual prejudicial expectations the majority society had about people like me - all to often too many in society would remind that I had to act to be accepted. I chose fleeting goals of fighting and struggling to appear better.
My life was about taking on challenges that were unchosen by too many "Native Tribal people".
I tried so many things to acquire a flimsy, superficial successes to feed my foolish pride.
Throughout my life I grew bitter and violent. I now am 70 winters and I'm still growing.
The bible is something I've read and tried to follow... in many "religions".
I grew a new set of feathers and I accomplished this by going home to my tribe.... with a Warrior eagle festherin my hair and my literal connection to my Dakota/Lakota blood, I came home. I'm not perfect and yet, I know i must do right - to livr conscientiously.
I see now, more clearly, how i need to be open to sharing my heart, my learned experiences and be willing to be honest and patient about who I walk this good RedRoad with now.
This song illicits in me - a feeling of gratefulness to Billy Joe Shaver for writing the lyrics.... it's more than abible story. This song for me is about rising up after life's struggles and being willing to b a StrongHeart... a Warrior who stakes themselves down in one place and stands his/her ground in honor and dignity. No matter what.
I'm grateful to share this the whole world and have sung this song in church to share my faith. I believe the words of "When Fallen Angels Fly".
