    A most beautiful song.l understand that it was written about unrequited love,for me the song relates to the tragic loss of my wife, Diane. In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty,this was as l sat beside her during her final hours. I wanted to take her hand along the sand but sadly I may as well have tried to catch the wind .
    Every word of this truly wonderful piece has a profound and deep meaning, just listen to it.
    My beautiful wife Diane, was brought into Chapel on her final journey with Catch The Wind accompanying her, both of us had always adored the song.
    Catch The Wind was released on March 12th 1965 Diane and l would have been aged 7 years old. Dianes funeral was on March 12th 2021,some 56 years later to that very day....l believe it had always been written in the stars ,for her.

    This is a song written by the English singer, song writer, Donovan.. that was a world wide hit in the 1970s .. was very popular. It was not written by Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan has sung songs written by other people now and then.. there is no exclusivity in his selection

    I would think it is about unrequited love. He loves the woman but either knows, or believes he does not have chance with her. It would appear I am supposed to type at laast 50 words here. What would be the purpose of that? I think I expressed what I felt in the first two sentences.

    Take the point of view of loosing your wife or a loved one. Everyone of these lyrics ring true.

    Searching YouTube, you can find a beautiful version of this song buy Joan Baez and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Joan dedicates it to her deceased sister. It was someone she was close to. It was someone that the lyrics rung true.

    I've lost a wife. If I lost my current wife, this would be her tribute song. Btw- I would can the "Di-di-di's" for a harmonica. Donovan did that. And, as has been pointed out, Dylan did NOT write this. It was Donovan, who was tabled, "England's Dylan".

    It's easy to play, but with great riffs between C-F-G and and Em and D in the Bridge.

    I think this makes sense if the lover pursued is actually God. I think God is kind of like wind. The ancients would agree. If I could talk to Donovan I would congratulate him on his song and say that you can't grasp the wind but you can ride with it.

    To me it makes me think that the guy really wants this girl but thinks it would be too hard, he might not have the motivation to really try to be with her, that he may as well give up, that he may as well "try to catch the wind".

    Am I wrong? Please let me know your interpretation.

    it expresses the feelings of a lover, who is deeply in love but despairs that his lover is not as fully committed as he is. Being loved in such a beautiful way is a powerful aphrodisiac. So he's giving it his best shot!
    And yes, it was recorded by Bob Dylan

    This song was written by Donovan Leitch. It was his first recording and it was a hit. He was 19 years old at the time. It has been covered many times but Wikipedia does not list a cover by Bob Dylan although that is not to say he never made one.

    I have always loved this simple beautiful song of angst and longing since I first heard it back in the day. And I have loved other artists placing their mark on it. I was very surprised to learn it was Donovan’s first song that he wrote. I am glad these songs from a million years ago can still be heard and appreciated. Jr
