So sad my boyfriend died rate after he proposed to me.
It was after dinner we were on our way to my house when a big semi truck hit us I made it out ok but my new fiancé Chris died at the sene I was really sad it makes me think of him more when I go to the crash sight I love you chris always and forever. Rip.

This song isn't about brantley. When he was in highschool an friend of his proposed to a girl, an got killed in a car accident on the way home. Brantley struggled over 6 months to finish this song, then his cousin came home from iraq an brantley played it to his cousin. His cousin replied "number one you got me tearing up an number 2 I been waiting a long time for someone to write a song about joeseph. Also a friend of brantleys, joeseph henley had proposed to his girlfriend amy an on his way home that night he was hit an killed by a train. The only thing that survived this tradgic accident was joesephs bible, completely untouched. So brantley new this was a sign for finishing his song. So yes 2 guys lost their lives on their way home the same nights they propsed to their girlfriends.

When ever I hear this song I think about my boy friend Chris he died the same day he proposed to me. He was on his way to his house to talk to his mom and I was really dark out and he was driving down the road in his brand new chevy silverado when a big semi truck missed the stop sign and hit him. This also reminds me of my cousin Damon Janes how he died and our love will always be there.
I wake up ever morning thinking god fr the next moment I have with my sister and 2 brothers and family because you are garented the next moment or day so don't take it for granted in joy it because when god wants you he takes you.

No on dies in this song. It is based off brantley gilbert's life and why he committed his life to music. He proposed and shortly after got in a severe car accident (see halfway to heaven). The song is implying that the couple was split after the accident and both are devestated. In the end both move on. Brantley is praying for god to save the girl by giving her the courage to move on. The only thing puzzling is the last stanza about walking "through these gates. "
