Brian Doerksen – Refiner's Fire lyrics
Purify my heart
Let
me be as gold and precious silver
Purify my heart
Let me be as gold, pure gold
Refiner's fire
My heart's one desire
Is to be holy
Set apart for You, Lord
I choose to be holy
Set apart for You, my Master
Ready to do Your will
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from within
And make me holy
Purify my heart
Cleanse me from my sin
Deep within

A good reference to this song is from Zachariah 13:9. What a needed message for our Church, and our personal lives. Without using the word, this song is talking about the personal experience of sanctification which the Holy Spirit will do in our lives after our salvation. Sanctification means first, to be set apart, which the song says. Second, it means to be made holy, just as this song says. Awesome! We must believe that God not only can do it, wants to do it, but will do it through His Holy Spirit if we will surrender and allow Him to fulfill this by faith. Don't just aim for maturity in your walk with Jesus, that will come in time. Cry out for purity, that is a heart fully surrendered, cleansed from a wrong spirit of self-centeredness and worldliness, and then filled with a supernatural love. It is being touched with purifying fire, filled with perfect love, and a new power for service. This was the secret of the Church in the book of Acts!

I've been struggling to write a sermon for Sunday on Jesus' seemingly harsh words in Luke12:49-56!
The words of Refiner's Fire suddenly came to mind and helped me make sense of them. Just as Jesus' mission, ministry and teaching provoked ridicule, rejection and ultimately the cross, so, as His followers, if we allow the fire of His word and the Holy Spirit to radically change us, (ie. to be holy) we may also experience opposition and division. Hard but true!

For the past few days this song just kept coming to my head and not to mention that this song has always been one of our worship song but today after a long time I had an urge to listen to this particular song and I realize this song has more than the lyric along or what the writer has actually written. It reminded me how bless I am with this life that he has given me, however we always fail to be on the right track caught up with our many worldly duties. Which leads us to break his heart each day whereas our desire should be to always be ready to do his will and make him proud through our work. So this song for me is to go deeper and seek him to stay refined, not through words and flesh alone but also be ready to do his will and not mine.

The Lord has been talking to me and I have been hearing that he is reigniting his church and making them a truly powerful people who are holy and unashamed and who will lead others to him. My heart is filled with the message that the salvation of souls is so important to God and that we as a church need to purify ourselves, truly repent of our sins, and be baptized in the holy spirit showing the world the power that comes in Jesus' name. Refiners fire keeps going through my mind along with other songs about holiness. Holiness is what God wants for his church, and he is bringing this about, I know, even as I write this. ~ Amy

I just listen to Refiner's fire again and I can tell you all that we need to get that tourch from God everyday. we need God to refiner our lives again so that we can be in line with him, our master. God wants us to be holy because that is the only way that we can get to him and that is the reason why Christ came in the first place and keep refinerning the fire in us God for we need it. stephen aya , Lagos Nigeria

I preparing a message on Luke 3:7-18 particularly where John talks about the threshing floor and the unquenchable fire and this much loved hymn came to mind so have taken the metaphor of the threshing floor and fire to challenge our need for the refiner's fire in preparation of the coming of the Christ Child this Christmas, I need this challenge every day.

I was just reading Joshua 5:15 this morning and the Lord started to minister to me about holiness, I was reminded of this song, how God needs to purify us so that we can be holy, for us to see the Kingdom we must be holy and purified and that's what I need.
