    The song is an anti war song which highlights that atrocities are always committed on both sides. This particular song highlights how frequent the oppression of women takes place and how men frequently blame women for what they do even when their acting out of aultuism. The story the song related to was of allied forces brutalising women who slept with the Nazis to save their lives, the lives of their children and so their families didn't die of starvation under Nazi occupation. These women were frequently working for and passing information onto the resistance, only to be raped, beaten and have their hair shaven to publucally humiliate them by allied forces who accused them of being "collaborators". The song isn't saying Crass think that. They're just using that metaphor to highlight the systematic oppression of women.

    For so long I thought this song was about Auschwitz and the shaving of the female prisoners selected for death with their children. I was surprised to find out it was about the shaming of French female "collaborators". They lyrics fit for both, except the "collaborators" bit, that lyric had always puzzled me until now. I still find the song powerful and meaningful.
