A "pro" is a prostitute in Street or cop slang. So the line 'she knows what it takes to make a pro blush' refers to the fact that she has so much sexual audacity that she is more forward and more assertive than a professional s** worker. It alluded to the seductive sexual power that the protagonist of the song projects. Some women wield this kind of power. Men don't really possess it. Essentially she's a siren or femme fatale. Vive le femme! Now if we could just get over the stereotype that sexual power is evil and corrupting. Maybe we could enjoy the tension between the sexes more and celebrate it when used appropriately.

It is likely that the lyrics of the song were intended to have a double meaning. The most obvious is about a seductive woman, and this was probably intended to disguise the deeper meaning, which was probably the use of methamphetamine. In at least some of kim carnes vocals of that song it sounds like she is saying "bette davis ice. " a common nickname for crystal meth is "ice. " the drug has been in use since before wwii, but presumably it began to be referred to by this nickname sometime in the 1970s. Betty davis eyes was recorded in 1981. Some of the song lyrics imply characteristics of methamphetamine or symptoms related to its use:.

Her hands are never cold -- hyperthermia, an elevated body temperature.

This song is about a woman who has the beauty, the charm, the sway. She is getting the attention of her male counterpart but she really has nothing to offer, except the charm, beauty etc. She will make you think you have a chance but really this is what she is selling a chance with zero returns. She is the glittering dream package, nothing more then a billboard of desire, unattainable and ultimately not worth it.

Her hair is "harlow gold" (not "hollow gold") as in jean harlow, the golden age movie star (like bette davis) and original blonde bombshell. Her lips "a" sweet surprise (because that clause is part of the earlier sentence). She has "greta garbo pin-up thighs. " the writer mixed together greta garbo and betty grable, known for her wwii pin-up photo showing off her thighs.
And she doesn't snow you off your feet, you "have to feed with the crumbs she throws you. "

Yes, the lyrics are terrible. I agree fully with those who have protested and exposed the deficiencies.
But for my own part, the idea that "she knows what it takes to make a pro blush" is crap. What she says quite clearly in the song is "she knows what it takes to make a crow blush! " you know, the way black bird turning rosy at the advances of this ultimate femme fatale.
What sort of pro? No, it's a blatant statement of a woman who can turn black feathers white with her predatory sexuality.
So correct the lyrics, to the end that we can experience the full and raw passion of this song.
