Personally I thought the meaning of this song was more like a relationship thing, like a man and a women were currently in a relationship then the women just let go one day "you held it all but you were careless to let it fall" and he was powerless to do anything about it and he's even says you'll never see what I've become because of you, personally that's just what I think.

Arguments against the lyrics aside,.
I think this song is about a man or woman who was very close to someone and told them their secrets, but that person didn; t do the same. And eventually a problem from that person's past that was kept secret came back and ended badly for that person. And that person likely died, while their friend stood by powerless to help them.
This makes me think of my cousin. Who had been sick for a while and the family told to go to the doctor but she refused. Months later she got really sick and turned out to have liver cancer. She died in 2008 and our whole family sat by unable to do anything to help her and just sat by powerless.
