I think it's about someone who lost someone they loved and they talked in their mind to that person asking what he/she would do if (s)he was in their place.

By asking

And that the person in their mind says: 'Pretend it's OK'

Verse 1:
They have a nice memory of the person
'I remember the day when we were out all night' 'I wish I can get the day back and tell you it's alright'

They person realizes because of the death of her/his loved one that live is short
'we just don't realize that we're living on borrowed time'

Verse 2:
The nice memory starts fading away

I see the light that I'm chasing' *The light is the memory, he/she is chasing the memory, the memory keeps going into her/his mind because they don't want the memory to go away but it still does

'A memory but it's fading, when it's gone I'll be waiting' Waiting for the memory to come back
'Knowing it's too late' too late for the memory to come back

He/she is in a depression because of the death of his/her loved one,

Then they are hopeless for the depression to go away,
