Mary Black – Bright Blue Rose lyrics
I skimmed across black water, without once submerging
Onto the banks of an urban morning
That hungers the first light, much much more
Than mountains ever do.
And she like a ghost beside me, goes down with the ease of a dolphin
And emerges unlearned, unshamed, unharmed
For she is the perfect creature, natural in every feature
And I am the geek with the alchemists' stone

Chorus

For all of you who must discover,
For all who seek to understand,
For having left the path of others
You find a very special hand

And it is a holy thing, and it is a precious time
And it is the only way
Forget-me-nots among the snow, it's always been and so it goes
To ponder his death and his life eternally

Chorus

For all of you who must discover
For all who seek to understand,
For having left the path of others
You find a very special hand

And it is a holy thing
And it is the only way
Forget-me-nots among the snow, it's always been and so it goes
To ponder his death and his life eternally

One bright blue rose outlives all those
Two thousand years and still it goes
To ponder his death and his life eternally

My thoughts are that the song refers to "Our Lord Jesus" walking on the waters to the opposite shore. The ghost could be sin, it looks perfect and it never learns, it can be submerged by asking forgiveness yet if one lets it, it will easily re-introduce itself, it blends in so well with the world of today. He, the referred to person in the lyrics, stands out like a geek (noticable) in his efforts to turn the basic human being from just a common thing into a golden opportunity the would end up in heaven. It seems to be advising those of us who want to be found that we can be, we can understand, we can move across and find that there is the way of Jesus over the way of man and our earthly pleasures. The Bright Blue Rose, I think may have reference to Mary, Jesus's mother and through her intersession and thoughts of her sons life over 2000 years, through the rosary and other aspects we can all enjoy in the bigger picture --- it's just a beautiful song and it sets my heart a-float --- on behalf of Edward J Gribbin (song writing and melodies) Ed-j.

"I skimmed across black water" is a reference to the pools and bogs, which typically pock our Celtic "arming"land.
It is about a person emerging from sleep steeped in her past, yet having to move into that dull boring urban mess, where employment lies. Mountains are silent witnesses to the greatness of God.
"She" [we know Who] - like a ghost (spirit) is beside us all the way. Different, pure and asking us to make a difference with 'the alchemist's stone. There is no alchemy. No stone!
To-day's GEEK is tomorrow's genius or theologian.
    "For all...".
It truly is a precious time & by the standards of everything from Pontious Pilate until today; the only way is by following the forget- me-nots .
We have all had other ways, other means, but ...
"One bright blue rose outlives all those
Two thousand years and still it goes
To ponder His death and His life eternally".
