    I think this song is about child abuse. "Don't call me daughter, not fit to..." reminds me, on occasion my mother would say "I'm proud of you" and I would think - how dare you be proud of me? You've given me nothing but hurt, broken bones, shame and pain. Whatever is good about me is despite you, not because of you.

    I have a family portrait that shows my mother and I - I'm about 9 and grinning away. We look like a happy family, what doesn't show is the bruises we bear, and we three kids are grinning because she said "Now smile or I'll kill you" and we believed her.
