    This guys in love obviously. He really wants to know if this chick loves him back and he wants to tel her too. “I want you to know/cause I want to know” if he tells her she’ll tell him too. “Leave out the others baby and say I’m the only one/cut out the uniforms and settle with the sun” it’s a new relationship and she’s dating other people but they’re all the same to him, he’s the sun” he obviously feels weird being in love. It’s a very different feeling and he doesn’t know how to go about it or even cope with it. It’s like prison because he has no control over this thing that happened. He’s a prisoner to his feelings. The song is sang in this sad way to represent his uneasiness of this situation and being unsure if she loves him back. He just wants to know.

    I can’t figure out what he’s getting at here. Maybe talking about this person owning up to their feelings for him? The second part he says “stories and cigarettes ruin lives of lesser girls but I want you to know” maybe he’s admitting she has flaws but he sees her in a different light because he’s so in love. It then goes into him wanting to know if she loves him too.

    I've only just discovered this song and love it so much! Perhaps I'm naive because I took it literally- a guy actually in prison, finding it hard to cope. Prison is a very strange and unnatural environment where all emotions and problems are amplified. Inmates long for contact from outside and worry about what partners may be doing without them. Some guys write to numerous girls and profess undying love to them all("prison talk"). This guy could be genuine though.
