The Rolling Stones – 2000 Man lyrics
Well, my name is a number
A piece of plastic film
And I'm growin' funny flowers
In my little window sill

Don't you know I'm a 2, 000 man
And my kids, they just don't understand me at all

Well my wife still respects me
I really misused her
I am having an affair
With the random computer

Don't you know I'm a 2, 000 man
And my kids, they just don't understand me at all

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy, proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. Proud of your sun
Oh daddy, your brain's still flashin'
Like it did when you were young
Or do you come down crashin'
Seeing all the things you'd done
All was a big put on

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. Proud of your son
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. Proud of your sun

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. Proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. Proud of your sun

And you know who's the 2000 man
And your kids they just won't understand you at all

It's prophetic. Guy's growing pot in his window sill; having an affair, yes with digital tech in general, but with human simulations had by porno and sex robots. His brain still flashes with the ardor of youth but he's guilty about the stuff he used back then, about the women he used, and the messes he cleaned up, if you get my drift, and seeks now in ecology a form of penance. His care for the environment now, is supposed to make up for the way he mistreated and polluted, morally and physically, himself and others. The put on is about the supposed transcendence gotten by radical politics and drugs when truth be told he only wanted to get high and get laid. The Stones as ever smarter than their fans, even smarter than themselves, condemn themselves from the future.

The song was written in 1967, the deep philosophical period of the 60's. I think it is about how people are becomming more and more isolated from one another through technological advancement, the changing workplace, changing society, etc. It is not a very bright vision of the future. The 2000 man, the man of the future, is just a "number," married to his job working in the technology field, isolated from his wife and kids, those he should be closest to. In the 60's there were a number of songs that were kind of dark and had a dark outlook toward the future, as kind of wake-up calls unless things changed in the present. This, I think, was in that vein.
