My interpetation is that the song is about a conflict between depression and the self. Awful things can happen to a person, (in this case I would infer that this is Sia's battle with addiction) leaving them to feel damaged (clipped wings) and a resulting depressive state. It can get so bad that the suicidal thoughts creep in (a scream inside that we all try to hide) but one of the most powerful lines in the song (I don't want to die) is expelled in the [Refrain]. (I don't care if I sing off key, I found myself in my melodies.) If people can't understand her struggle, she doesn't let it bother her, and lives authentically. Music saved her life, and by relying on herself and her art she was able to get out of that terrible place. It is a beautiful song and one of the most powerful on this album.
