The Strokes – Take It Or Leave It lyrics

My interpretation of this song is about the first person that cares for a girl/boy so much, trying to prove to the other person that she/he wouldn't treat them badly like he/she has seen others do them, by stating "i'm not that way. " first person trys to tell the other person how wrong their partner is, or ex, that the second person can't quite get over or is in denial and is blinded to even come close to seeing all the bad happenings between the relationship. First person see's a gateway to second persons heart and doesn't want to lose the opportunity of having him/her to the other fishes in the sea that keep thinking about the second person. So the first person becomes in control by saying "take it or leave it" therefore forcing the second person, that has feelings for first person but has been stalling to give first person a response because doesn't know entirely what they want because of history, heartache, or current relationship to give first person an answer right then and there. Basically saying it's either now or never, you want me or you don't, which is it. Stop beating around the bush. It states as well, that he/she keeps hiding how they feel about the first person, and that the first person doesn't have to be tough, bite their lip and never say how they feel about the second person, and then decides it's time to stick it to the 2nd person even if that means 1st person would only say "take it or leave it" if anything. It's a very powerful line.
