Someone's trying to explain a very complex thing here. May he fell out of love or worse he's with someone else. He trying to explain carefully to the girl without her being hurt. He's too afraid to lie. He's really having a hard time explaining. He's too nervous about it that maybe he'll say the wrong words and displease the girl which he was afraid of. The chorus, in my opinion, tells us that nothing perfect. Everything falls out at some time. He can't go on without her but he thinks it's better if he leaves her. It took a lot of time for him to explain. And it hurts him too. He just can't tell sweet lies to his girl. It took him a lot of courage and honesty to say all he that he wants to her. It also tears him apart though his girl can't perceive it. He sends her back home. And on their way t'was the girl's turn to say her final words to him. He tried to understand her also. The end. They broke up.

I think he has cheated and he's trying to explain it to her. He can't lie and it hurts him just as much as its hurting her because he truly loves and cares for her. It was something that got out of hand. Good intentions turned obscure. (angels cry, when stars collide)They were soul mates, but the stars collided the minute he made that choice to cheat. Now the angels cry because something that was so perfect has been ruined.

I beleive this song is about how he's been broken in the past and is now wanting to be with this girl but can't becuz he's still to broken and scared to feel again "a shot of broken heart that is chased with fear" - he's scared to fall for her again and is still broken and when he talks about angels cry when stars collide he means angels cry when soul mates end up crashing and burning in the end (don't work out).

I think that this song is about maibe a best friend saying to him thatshe likes him but he doesn't feel the same. He doesn't want to see her hurt and doesn't want to ruin there friendship (this doesn't change the way I feel about you our your place in my life, please don't cry) he is sad that he is making her hurt because of his response and he doesn't feel to good eather (can't you see I'm dying here, a shot of broken heart that is chased with fear). She is his angel and the star that collide are the words that he said to her.

When I heard this song my new bf and I had just had a terrible fight. He was drunk and said some really horrible things to me. I was dying inside and I knew what it felt like to have stars collide. He apologized the next day and has every day afterwards and has never touched a drink again. The meaning for me was a man hurting the woman he loves and is trying so hard to make it up to her but isn't sure how but he's dying inside because of the pain he caused the one he loves.
