Warbringer – Forgotten Dead lyrics

This is a song about a war (obviously). The question is 'is it a real war, or is it a fictional war'. All of the scenarios in this song could be a real war. For some reason the lyrics remind me of WW1, because there was troops that were forced to advanced. The main thought comes to the german Stormtroopers, many of them were highly trained but received bad orders to just straight up advance such as the lyrics "The whistle blows, you are forced to advance into oncoming machine gun fire". This is just what it reminds me of and it doens't mean that is what the song is about, but it is obviously about a war. Warbringer tends to (seemingly) like ficftional wars as well such as the album cover of "War Without End". Is the art symbolic or literal? Who knows.

What we do know is that this song is about a vast battlefield, it is put into the perspective of a single infantryman. He watches his fellow comrades fall dead, wondering when it's his time. As he receives orders to push forward he is stabbed with a bayonet and dies "Stabbed through the gut by a bayonet, blood chokes your scream Another dying soul is laid upon the altar of mankind's greed".

I think the song is mostly interpreted as how many people die in a war, how insegnificant from far away it seems but when you zoom in it is tragic.
