This is the best Jenny Morris song (along with Break in the Weather) IMHO and I know it well.
Line three of this song is actually "I speak and I’m quite sure you hear."
In the bridge, it’s actually "Isn’t it about time that we lit the fire."
Unfortunately the original vinyl album’s sleeve was pictures with no lyrics, and somewhere along the way these incorrect lyrics have been posted everywhere. Jenny Morris sings these words clearly in full view of the camera in the video clip, there’s no doubt.
