Dragon's Teeth and The Belgian Gates where used in World War ii. They were defense systems made of concrete and steel. Some fragments of these still exist in parts of Europe. The song is describing the feeling a person had during war time going from area to area seeing horrible destruction and bombed out buildings that were once lively homes and villages. I am not so sure that the lyrics have any deep spiritual meaning. I think it is more being introspective, pondering the hard scrabble struggle for survival this person now faces juxtaposed with the now fleeting comfort of hearth and home during war or any kind of major upheaval. It is an excellent song as it prompted me to think of the value I place on my own home and place in the world.
