On a trip across Lough Corrib to the spiritual island of Inchagoill, I asked my sisters about a song one of them used to sing about a nightie on the door...had heartv=breaking lyrics that really upset me. I had identified the wrong sister but eventually we tracked it to Mary Black's Katie. I listened to it reading the lyrics last night...had wrongly believed it was a case of a young wife discovering her husband's infidelity and left home in a hurry, never to return. Then a lightbulb struck! everything points to my favourite love story of all time. All the ingredients are there... a survivor living with guilt and grief and still hearing the call of his beloved Katie. It has to be the story of Withering Heights, even the name Catherine works, and especially Death keeping them(Heathcliff) apart but never separated. And the creepy window references..Cathering forever appeared as a ghost trying to get in..What do you think?
