I've been on the brink" this means that you feel like he/she is having fun saying all those things but he's not, it's just that he's on the edge and its the only way that he can remain on the spotlight. He or She doesn't want to disappear, they don't have any family to blame. They don't care about critics and reputations anymore, as long as they can get attention.
