I think that the narrator of the story was depicting a true life situation which some men go through. the fact that this woman was tired living in dreams tells a story behind it. It can be that this man was not meeting the needs and expectation of his wife. This inability to meet the needs might be because of lack of financial muscle of the husband or other reasons. As a result the woman made her mind to leave the husband and look for her own means of meeting her needs. The narrator is showing the the character of a woman who values money or enjoyment over her marriage and children.
