To me, this song has so many meanings, but I think one of the main themes in the song is nostalgia - especially the first verses. We all have times and people that we think back on - times and people who have moved on, maybe without us, while we have also kept going. I love the repeated [Refrain] "Rivers and roads... rivers 'til I reach you." Rivers and roads signify paths in a journey, and in this case, the journey could be a journey towards new places, times or even a new person. Alternatively, the journey could be in going back to a time or a place or a person that once made the person singing the song happy. In life, we have to be prepared to keep pressing forward, and to follow the rivers and roads which will lead us to whatever happiness it is that we're looking for.

I think this song is about growing up. I think she feels guilty about the way she treated someone (an ex) in the past, but she's trying to apologise, even though she knows that the person in question has moved on. It's more a case of wanting closure for herself I think; to recognise within herself that the way she treated this person wasn't great. The apology is more for her continued growth - so that she doesn't have to look back and feel like she should have said something, than it being for closure of the subject of the song. Clearly that person has long since moved on, but from the sounds of it, still hasn't forgiven her, and may be unlikely to forgive. But like she says "At least I can say that I tried."

This song is a strange one to think about, especially seeing it all typed out. Where I live, a life insurance company uses a cover (with slightly different words) of this song in their ad on TV. I was so surprised when I heard it on the ad for the first time! But I guess it kind of suits. To me, this song is a "life" song. I'd go as far to say that it's a wedding song, but it's not about the 'before' or the 'just after' of the wedding like a lot of other songs. It's a bit... I don't know... Darker? That's not quite what I mean, but it'll do. It's about the life the couple will share with one another. They're in love, but more than that, they're going to stick with one another through thick and thin, which is an awesome promise all tied up into a wedding song.

I love this song. To me, it's not so much about losing/leaving someone, as finding hope afterwards. I might be way off base with what I'm going to say next, but that's OK - the beauty of music is that a listener can interpret it in different ways, depending on life experience or current mood. I think this song is also about two people coming back to each other. It's hard for me to hear this song without hearing two sides to the story. It's both of them that can't get the other out of their veins. They're a part of each other, and no matter how much things change, how hard life gets, or how hard the relationship gets, they'll keep coming back to each other. The last part "you catch a glimpse of sunlight/shining, shining down on your face" gives me hope that these two will realise that the love they have has survived all kinds of change, doubt ("oh you run away/cause I am not what you found") and devastation, and that because of that, there's hope that it might just work out after all. That's just my two cents. Call me a romantic, but a song like this seems heartbreaking but hopeful and beautiful all at once.
