This song is about a guy who was with a girl that he loved. Then something obviously happened and now they broke up and she is over him, probably with another boy. But the narrator is not over her yet, but he knows that the "hardest thing and the right thing" are to get over her and find a new girl. He also compares all these new people he likes to the old girl and he always finds flaws in them that the old girl didn't have. She was perfection and "perfection will not come" until he gets over the old girl.
