This Song connects me to my late Mother who loved this song above all the other Rod Stewart songs. I like to believe that the lyrics represent the longing to be with the one you love but have lost. 'Can you hear me, through the dark night far away. ' - like in death, we can't see or hear the ones we've lost but they are there whispering to us and stil loving us trying to be with us, perhaps in our dreams as we fly like birds and sail stormy waters to be with them.
But that is just me.
