Meaning
This song has a very deep meaning and I enjoyed reading people's interpretations of Disturbia. For me, it's totally about mental breakdown, thus, leading to cofusion and ultimately, insanity. Schizophrenia is also implied in some of the lines. She hears voices in her head but she feels too tired/unenthusiastic to seek help. She once embraced life and considered herself "the hope", but something hit her and now her mind's in a different state. She seeks help, even naming her own twisted world as "Disturbia" (disturb + suburbia); a world where the insane and mentally depraved gather. She warns us to "put on our breaklights" as she might hurt us and won't even try to be nice. She loses hope and grows too confused to even think and refers to the unknown darkness as her only salvation. She cuts down social interaction and locks herself in a room, talking to her pictures. She doesn't want us to leave, because she feels like her dolor and anguish would be twice as hard to fight. She remains tame but ultimately succumbs to the darkness. So she asks whether she is scaring us with all these disturbed thoughts or not.
