This song really is just wonderful. Some may say that it's a "stalker song" and that it's creepy, I did at first, but as you dive deeper into what it's actually saying, it's not at all a stalker song. First off, the song is too soft to be a stalker song. The music is too light, the voice isn't dark or angry, but rather calm and soothing, suggesting that this is a comfort to someone. If you look at the lyrics and take them line by line, it's saying that:
"You can walk away from your problems and it's okay, but you won't get that far because the doubt or guilt or pain or whatever will catch up to you. There's something special and charming about you, but you can't have everything, so whatever you do, wherever you go, you just have to turn around and see that someone is there for you through everything. They're just two steps behind you."
These lyrics have helped me through so many dark times and have made me feel better about myself. I can quite honestly say that this song has changed my life. By far, the best writing that Joe Elliott, or Def Leppard in general have ever done.
