To me the song tells the tale of two people who by chance meet, fall in love, but soon find out they're not made for each other.
The song also depicts a lot of work from Oscar Wilde with mentioning of the Dorian Gray who made a deal to keep his youth in the form of a picture that took all the ageing and sin that Dorian did.
The song also notes the tale of the The nightingale and the rose, where a Nightingale (bird) gives itself to form a red rose to give to the Student to give to the one he desires thinking it's true love. The sacrifice of the Nightigale is done by singing in the moonlight "A rose that is built of music by moonlight" with a thorn stuck in the Nightingales Breast slowly killing it/drawing its blood to form the rose.
In the end the students takes the rose to his love and finds she's no longer interested in the rose as it would clash with her new choice of clothes.
The student gets angry and goes back to reading his books.
I feel you lost my memory is a tale of heartache and unrequited love.
