I quite agree that this is one of their best songs, but my opinion is that this song is about settlling down. He finds himself with a really nice girl and before he knows it he's almost in a serious relationship, which he quite likes but thinks of it as afterlife - something that is inevitable and he wants to be there, but only after he lived his life to the fullest (be it women, career, rock and roll). So he lets go of the girl, gets on with his life as it was before and in the back of his mind hopes that someday he will have another chance to finally "die".
