I have read with interest the various Mr Brightside lyric meanings, and I really have to tell everybody the real meaning of the song. While some posts have been close to the truth, the most fundamental meaning has been missed entirely. The lyrics are based on an old film featuring a character called Tim Brightside who fell in love with a prostitute, she promised to give it up and she lied, he was heartbroken and jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge. This song was written as a suicide note by the real ghost author not Brandon Flowers. The authors life very closely resembled this story including part of the name.
