Agreed, he wants to show that it is the end like in relationships where you go back and forth he wants to finally end it but it seems he's gotten the bad end of the stick. He is still angry but not over it. He finally sees that it's over and is actually asking for her help so he can be angry enough to "Break it off." In the last verse he wants her to feel the same pain he is feeling. My guess is that this is a song which expresses his feelings which were never expressed directly.
