To me, this song seems to be about a "joker;" a person who does all he can to put on a show and be funny in order to fit in, and is worried that, if he can't keep it up, people will turn away from him. He feels that he can't allow himself to be serious, as people would mock him or simply turn a blind eye. Interestingly, I realised, after listening to this song, that I've written one very much like it, prior to buying the album. I listened to this song, and then it dawned on me: I wrote this exact same song, only with a slightly different approach. : P
