The lyrics obviously talk about the poverty and lack of jobs experienced during the Great Depression all while the fat bankers sit there and let the people suffer. The stanzas talk about various groups of people losing their livelihoods all while the bankers sit there and let the people suffer. The final stanza talks about the hope of getting all of the workers to take charge and make lives better for themselves by taking all of the banker's wealth and using it to improve their lives.
