Easy basis of this song. Jareth (the goblin king) is trying to figure out what kind of goblin to turn Toby into. If you find this confusing lets scroll back. All of the goblins that Jareth has are children that were wished away from their home as Sarah did with Toby. Either the people didn't have enough time to save them, they didn't care, or they could restate the strong line of "you have no power over me." Jareth is felling as if Sarah wasnt going to make it in time to save her little brother so he starts thinking what kind of goblin should this baby be?

Mostly this song is based on how the goblin king (Jareth / David bowie) loves Sarah (Jennifer) while she doesn't love him back. Well not fully. In the beginning of the movie when she is telling the story to Toby (Her little brother) she goes on about how the goblin king loved the girl. This girl was her and this song just shows how he loves her. As you look through these lyrics Sarah must have gone through a hard relation ship while jareth is trying to say he is going to make it all better for her and that he loves her. This might not be the 100% true meaning of the song but after watching the movie and singing this song probably 300 times I think its some what close.
