I've heard a lot of songs in my 55 years of living and this one is my all-time #1 favorite. It could be that it aired at a very important time in my life and we tend to associate songs with special moments. It also could be as simple as the fact that I just love the song. Whatever it was, I'll take it to my grave; it'll always be my all-time favorite song.

This is my absolute favorite gl song and "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" is a close second. I've often wondered exactly what this song means and I can only assume it's about the death of this girl. She said, "Darling, there will come a day, when I must run far away. I will go my love but you must say," followed by, "She departed in the early spring; she didn't leave me anything to follow or to find her." This was an early 1970s song and came on the heels of the so-called teen-age lovers' death songs - "Tell Laura I Love Her," "Last Kiss," "Patches" and "Laurie (Strange Things Happen in This World").

Gordon Lightfoot is my favorite singer and this is his signature song (despite those who may disagree, saying "Edmund Fitzgerald" is it). This song has history, melody and, best of all, as with most of Mr. Lightfoot's best songs, it tells a story. If you haven't heard this song, download it, put it on your Ipod or mp3 player and give it a listen. I think you'll agree. Stay with it though - it is long but it's well worth it.
