I think it means that the guy and the girl loved eachother so much that they got pushed to thir limits because they were so different from eachother. Then the girl left him because she couldn't take it any longer. Then the guy is very upset so he drinks and he says no matter what the love between them will always remain the same. Even though he still had so much more to say that could have made things better and he will never forget thier love because it will always be there.
