This song is about a romantic relationship. To be more specific, it about a romantic union that has already passed, much to the chagrin of the narrator, Jon Bellion. Most of the track is centered on him questioning why exactly said romance ended inexplicably when everything was seemingly going well. And in that regard, he concludes “that sometimes good things fall apart”. Again, the majority of the song is dedicated to Jon wondering what exactly led to his girlfriend deciding to let him go. And for the most part, he seems to believe a flaw in his own personality prompted her to make this decision, in addition to also acknowledging that he was “never really (her) type”. Other parts of the song are dedicated to him recollecting fond memories of the two of them being intimate together. His heart is broken, and he is “over thinking” as a result, trying to analyze the situation. This is a stressful situation which has him hitting the bottle and is causing him mental discomfort in general.
Even good things eventually fall apart
Yes, the singer admits that he has issues. But this negative self-analysis may just be a coping mechanism, as in an attempt to make sense of what appears to be him being unexpectedly dumped by the woman he loves. Indeed in his eyes, their relationship was all gravy, which again has led him to conclude that even “good things fall apart”.
