This songs tells the story of a Russian submarine, named “ Kursk”, which sank due to an explosion in the torpedo room. The submarine had a crew of 118 men, whom all died. The line “ The notes we left, Our final thoughts” tells of a note found on a Captain Lieutenant s body, which told of 23 men who survived the explosion and had to wait until the oxygen ran out. A line in the chorus “ Drowned by our country” refers to the rescue attempts offered by British and Norwegian teams, who had the equipment to save the survivors. These offers where refused by the Russian government due to “ outside political influences”. The singer talks of the survivors waiting it out in the second verse, “ The air runs out, The captain’ s first”. In the third verse he says “ Outside hammers, Noises sound like the end” this is talking about the submarine bending and collapsing underneath the ocean.
