Very smart song... The title refer to a Belgium specialty: Moules-Frites which is mussels with french fries (and sometimes eaten with mayonnaise). Seems quite innocent so far: a Belgium singer celebrating one of his national dishes... Things get more interesting at the refrain, when Paulo, the main character is said to like this dish but without the french fries and without the mayonnaise (Paulo aime les moules frites, sans frites et sans mayo...). So he likes mussels. You have to also know that "moule" is the equivalent in french of "pussy"... Now you can read the whole song with a totally different perspective: the story of a guy who likes women and know how to please them, until he encounters a mussel who bathed who knows where, in a contaminated water... And he will die from that... Now nearly every line is a pun, given you read it with the right prism: - Verse 1, line 2: his finger lift when he sees a beautiful shell getting out of the water... I let you guess what is lifting.... - Verse 2, line 4: the pungent taste of the ocean... refer to another taste of the feminine anatomy... etc, etc, People went nuts over this lyrics, sometime finding meaning when in my opinion there isn't (like associating mayonnaise to sperm or the word mayo(nnaise) which is a homonym for maillot (swimsuit), implying maybe without condom, etc...) All in all a very nice song, a very nice sound, a very sound message and a very nice subject of discussion with your french speaking girl/boyfriend.
