I think the meaning of this song, is that this girl, is trying to bring up his past and talk about it with him. Maybe she's getting mad over it, "Why she's gotta talk so much" since he may have done stupid things.
"You weren't there, why do you care?" He's referring to something that happened before they met and she wasn't there but now she found out and she keeps bringing it up to him.
"Don't go play by the water, they say you won't come back"
He's saying if she keeps digging up facts about his past, she probably won't come back to him. And he keeps lying about his past so she won't leave.
